I have a 2 week break in between an old job and a new job. Can I claim the dole for 2 weeks?

Assuming you left the old job voluntary, then no.

Yup, up to a nine week suspend for leaving a job voluntarily. It is used harshly by certain deciding officers (people resign due to gross bullying....see Work Problems forum) and in my mind a breach of human rights that deserves a trip to the High Court. Too many mental midgets following a rulebook that is there to be ignored.
But in your case, the dole is not there to fund a two week interim break. It's called Jobseekers not Unemployment anymore for a reason. And believe me, I had fun back in the 90s with the old system.

Sorry to sound harsh, and all the best with the new gig.

True, first thing is they'll send you for an appointment for Jobseekers Allowance / Benefit.
If you're in Dublin (maybe elsewhere ?) and the backlog for appointments is heavy....
Do NOT mention the oncoming job. Book the appointment for Jobseekers. You are genuinely seeking work. You are. Yes, you are. Once you have your appointment letter, pop up the CWO and be hard up.

Maybe you are, Maybe you're not. You now owe me and Gatling 186 * 2 = €372. I'll settle for a pint.

Thanks. It is a genuine query I did not know the answer. I am
Not going to go into the cwo and lie. It is the first time I have ever had a gap in 10 years. Pity there is no support for working people.

It is the end of one fixed term contract and the beginning of another.
