Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had used Housemydog.com? Heard the guy this morning on the radio and it sounds interesting. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them?

    Hi there

I used House my Dog this summer. We have an 8 month old Cavachon and I didn't want to put her in kennels so found this website. We were going away for 10 days. I'm living in Limerick. I sent at least 10 emails various dogsitters in Limerick ....none replied, not one. So I got in touch with the House My Dog support team. They were very quick to respond and sent out inquiries on my behalf also. They eventually found me one in Tipperary - a bit far away but at that stage I was getting worried as the hols were creeping up fast. We made contact and I asked to meet her first - we had arranged the following morning for me to drive up to her place. The following morning I texted her before leaving to confirm all was ok for meeting up, no reply, texted again, no reply, so I left it. She texted back 2 days later saying she was too busy to meet - I was raging, as I had taken the morning off to meet her.

Anyway, after getting the run around I finally got a response from someone in Newcastlewest - and we met up and she seemed great. So we left our dog with her for the 10 days.
All went well with her, she was a lovely person, had 2 of her own dogs, and let our dog sleep up in her room with her! (inside her crate). Our poor pup apparently pined for the whole 10 days for us, but the dogsitter took it all in her stride.
The website is good for seeing who's out there, but I found a lot of the sitters don't even reply to your message. Meet up with them before hand to make sure they are capable of looking after your dog. I hope you find one, as that for me was the hardest part, getting a response. However the people running the website were very helpful and quick to reply to all my mails.

I used House my dog when I went away in March. I found a married couple about 30 minutes away that were really dog lovers and welcomed my lad into their home. He was walked every day and treated as one of heir own. They sent me WhatsApp messages with photos too. I was really happy with the service and had great peace of mind while away.

Thank you for all the replies. I have actually been thinking since hearing the interview of using it from the other side now. About becoming a minder. Anyone have experience from this side of things?

It would be quite handy would love to hear how you get on.. I know the lady we went with we were asking her how she got on with the paws placed and said she found it great. As she could not get full time work and wanted to work with animals.. best of both worlds as she got to choose which dogs she watched and also there was some protection with using the website for payment and that so you dont really get caught out but chancers

Hi just a quick up-date.... So we had our first boarders at the weekend. And it went brilliantly. We had 2 small dogs called Lucy and Chewy. Bichon mixes. My own dog (lab/collie mix) was brilliant with them. Tried to put photos up it wont let me.

    awww thats great!
great that your own dog is happy to have visitors - the house where I board my fellow (well first time this weekend) has a day-care dog every day (owners daughters dog, lucky daughter!) who loves bossing the visitor dogs about :)
Pity you are so far away, Id love to have my dog go to a house where the resident dog is happy, and the boarding lady is so enthuastic!
Good luck, hope u get lots of (happy) customers!

UP-DATE: I have been in buisness nearly a year now and it is going from strenght to strenght aswell as the boarders i get through House my Dog, I have got a daycare dog through them aswell. It has been a busy summer this year and tonight will be the first night in a long time (about 2 months) that we don't have a dog staying over. I am loving it and wonder why I didn't do it years ago.... :-D
