Question for Hanidcap Guru's relating to ESR

Shot 41 Sunday in my home club with standard scratch being 37 so 4 shots triggered the first ESR straight away and I can see that in golfnet. All seems ok.

Shot 41 the following day, in an away open with standard scratch being 36 so 5 shots better.

This has been updated in golfnet a couple of days now and handicap reductions are all in order except the ESR. The second one doesnt seem to be triggered.

My understanding about ESR in ireland is that the second ESR should trigger automatically and I should have a 1 shot additional reduction applied automatically according to the ESR calculations.

Number of Qualifying Scores in the Sequence was 2 and the average was 4.5 so that should be a 1 shot reduction, applied automatically and straight away?

    Am I missing something?

To my understanding, the handicap secretary needs to apply the update which he would do via a notification he gets from his handicap system on his computer before the ESR goes through.

The only other thing that would stop it is if you were about to become a category 1 golfer or you currently are a category 1 golfer. Cat 1 golfers are exempt from ESR

The way the ESR works changed slightly this year. You need to break to break CSS again by 4 before the 2nd ESR comes in. Last year you would have got another ESR cut. Bascially this year once you get an ESR you need 2 scores again 4 above CSS to get an ESR

So based on this, you need 3 ESRs to trigger a cut??

This year the first and second exceptional score will trigger an ESR; the third and fourth exceptional score will trigger the next and so on. This is why you didnt get another ESR yet. You will when you have a 4th one

Sorry still not getting it or maybe i wasnt clear.

I posted 40 on sunday and golfnet shows this was the first trigger for ESR.
This was not an ESR cut. Just an alert in golfnet.

I posted 41 on monday but golfnet shows nothing - except a normal cut. this was 5 shots better than standard scratch.

I though this score Monday would be the second score in theESR sequence and therefore an ESR would be applied.

In summary - I have not had an ESR cut - just an alert in GOLFNET to say this was the first in the sequence (sunday). mondays score should be the second in the sequence and therefore that should have triggered the ESR cut of 1 shot.

Sounds straightforward - I wonder if the fact that it was an away score has anything to do with it?

And you definitely haven't beaten CSS by 4 or more earlier in the season?

You are right. my mistake. I did shoot a good score back in may. my sunday score was then the second in the sequence but there were more than 10 rounds of golf in between my first and second so the ESR was 0 change to handicap. My Monday score is therefore the first in the next sequence!

Had forgotten about that May score!

    Thanks for the help!

You are due an ESR cut.

As its an away score your handicap sec has more than likely not connected to golfnet yet.

I usually run a publish to golfnet every thursday and sunday evening and that is where the system (handicapmaster for us) gets updated.

You could ask him to do it for you, its just a a click of a button. I use teamviewer so dont even need to go to the clubhouse to do it.

    PS well done
