    Hello all!

I am in the process of purchasing a new car, and deicded to go for the DAB radio option.

I live in the North, but regularly listen to Today FM and RT 2fm on my travels.
    • What stations are actually available around the country? (I can't seem to find an exact answer)
    • Is there any cross-border DAB broadcasting coverage?
    • If I were to travel to Dublin (or elsewhere), would my new car DAB radio be able to pick up the Irish stations?
    • What is the spillover of DAB into Ireland form England?

I think that is all the questions I have for now!!

www.ukdigitalradio.com you type in your postcode and it will say the radio stations you can get.

in Dublin cork north east limerick you should get rte gold rte 2xm rte radio 1 xtra rte radio 1 2fm rte jr sunshine.

some parts in England get rte radio 1 on lw 252

    cant help with cross-border covage

No. RTE broadcast DAB from Clermont Carn, which also broadcasts FM on 87.8, 95.2, 97.0, 102.7 & 105.5, however it is EXTREMELY directional towards the Republic and little or no DAB leaks into northern Ireland.

You should have DAB coverage along most of the M1 from the border to Dublin, if not all of the way.

Not too much under normal conditions, as DAB transmitters are limited to 10kW in the UK.

To be perfectly honest, you're not missing much on Irish DAB other than maybe 2XM which is quite listenable and the documentaries and international content on RTE Radio 1 Extra.

Other than that there's nothing I would listen to on DAB here at all. It's just simulcasts of stuff that's already on FM (often in lower quality audio as it's old-school DAB 'classic' encoding) and MUX2 (as per my other thread) down here in Cork anyway seems to just be Christian radio stations.

I've gone to the stage, I just listen to streaming content and podcasts in the car now. It's easy to do with the large data limits on 4G (i.e. everyone except Vodafone).
