Transition between tile and laminate flooring

    I've currently got carpet meeting laminate in my living room (12mm laminate + 3mm underlay so 15mm total) and both are pretty level height-wise, so have a level transition bar between the two.

    I recently had some water damage to the carpet so the insurance say they can credit me for replacing carpet but to be honest I'm sick of carpet as one of the doors leads directly out to the garden.

    What I'd like is a sturdy waterproof surface that's easy to clean and won't scratch so I like the sound of porcelain tile (I can use rugs in the room to keep it warm for walking on). Obviously I'll pay the extra on top of the credit for the carpet.

    My question is related to the transition between the tile and laminate. Can installed tile be 15mm high? I don't want to lift up the transition bar as it will shred the laminate (it's glued on).

    Base flooring is concrete if that's a factor.

    Cheers, a few follow up questions if that's ok...

    Is it worth putting under-tile heating in?

    How much roughly per sq m?

    Typically expensive to run for a space roughly 25 m sq?


    I'm considering getting the wood-effect tiles if that makes any difference. Do the wood-effect tiles have visible grouting like the standard tiles? I hear grouting is a pain to keep clean, should I just opt for dark grouting to minimise this impact?
