    It's on now.

    . . . That's how easy it is to start a stage thread if there is none.

    I was just finishing this post when I saw your thread pelevin.

    Here it is anyway...

    Stage 6 (August 25th 2016): Monforte de Lemos -> Luintra (163.2km)

    From the Vuelta Official website:
    Mid-mountain stage where no one should let their guard down, between Monforte de Lemos and Luintra, in the Ribeira Sacra, crossing the spectacular canyons of the Sil River, whose last 70 kilometres are very windy, in a succession of climbs and descents all the way to the finish-line. In the final part of the stage, the peloton will come face to face with the Alto de Alenza, a 2nd category climb, that will not necessarily make much of a difference to the general classification, but it may well break the group up and prevent a mass arrival at the end. The road narrows in the final kilometres of the stage, which will be one of the most beautiful landscape discoveries of the 2016 Vuelta.

    Can anyone summerise what has happened so far this tour. I've been away for a week and there is no coverage in the mainstream media.

    • Stage 1: Sky win the TTT from Movistar (+1"), Orica (+6") and BMC (+7"). Contador and Tinkoff lose 52 seconds.
    • Stage 2: Gianni Meersmann (Etixx) wins the sprint.
    • Stage 3: The stage finishes up a wall. Geniez (FDJ) is the sole rider left from the breakaway and wins. Fernandez from Movistar attacks late on and takes red. Quintana loses 6 seconds to Valverde, Froome, and Chaves. Contador loses a further 22 seconds. Talansky loses nearly a minute and Kruijswijk nearly two.
    • Stage 4: Breakaway dominates the stage. Calmejane (FDJ) wins the stage. Atapuma is second, and takes red. Most of the top-GC guys finish with the same time. Kruijswijk loses more time.
    • Stage 5: Gianni Meersmann (Etixx) wins the sprint. Kruijswijk gets mangled on a bollard and breaks a collarbone.

    Overall, Froome, Chaves, Valverde and Quintana are looking very strong. Contador hasn't been great so far. Meersmann is the dominant sprinter.

    On most technical descents I've seen. Very narrow winding roads.

    It was the Tour of Oman or Qatar I think. Nobody was probably too bothered about that race though whereas the Vuelta is more prestigious and riders are willing to suffer a lot more.

    They really love their camera close-ups of Flecha doing his thing. Next a shot from the chamois.
