    Open a Revolut account https://revolut.com/

Proper exchange rates, free to open account, free to convert money and the card works at local ATMs and Point of Sale transactions without any transaction fees. Topping up is instant also.

If you're travelling in Europe (except where other currency is used e.g UK), use your debit card and you will be charged the standard rate.
If you're going outside the eurozone, its much cheaper to use your credit card if you preload it. By Preload i mean that you add money to your credit card account BEFORE you spend it. However, there is one risk of doing this. When you preload a credit card with your own mula, its not insured. So if you end up being robbed or anything, the bank won't pay you back any of that money.

Get yourself an account with N26. Its a debit card with almost no fees and a great exchange rate. Its saved me a fortune the last year or so.
