evening all just in the middle of a house purchase and my solicitor has requested an original engineers report of the house,it was built in 89 and was a self build so I imagine there wasn't an engineer on site when the foundations were poured, there isn't an evidence of subsiding or cracking, the seller isn't keen on having a foundation pit dug and would a pit be really necessary.im havin a survey done I would have thought that would be sufficient for insurance etc

You can have a visual structural survey. It's similar to a regular survey but the report says the building is standing and should be fine structurally. More money.

Yeah I've had a general survey done and that's all I can do I'm hoping this will satisfy the banks legal dept as the bank manager says he's fine with it

I'm always sceptical of someone who refuses a small procedure which would clear up the issue. You could as the Seller if he has any receipts from the Concrete Company might verify the Strength and Amount of Concrete supplied. Then a Calculation of the measurements should tell you if it was enough or not.
Not perfect but just another indication of the Foundations.
