I'm 40yr old female separated and single. I never seem to be still in life, I didn't finish school as I wanted to get out and get a job after my junior cert even though I done well at school and got 9 honours, I went from Job to Job, and from relationship to relationship.

I get bored too easy. No matter what position i'm in its not good enough for me I want something different. Everything in my life is like a novelty -wears off after a while. I'll want something so bad, get it then get bored and want something different. Same with when I got married, had the marriage got bored after a few years and that ended. Wanted a BMW, got that then after 1 year I wanted something didn't, no matter what I want and get I get bored. I wanted to join the gym for ages, went twice and got bored. No matter what I join it's the same I get bored.

I wish I could just settle, I really don't know why i'm like this I suppose I've been always like this as far back as I can remember. I just seem to always feel there is something better - grass is always greener. I'm constantly moving from house to house as well. I look at other people my age and see how they are settled and wish I was like them but i'm my own worst enemy, no matter what I have I want different. It's like i'm anxious all the time ive a bee in my bonnet , there always has to be something going on in my life to keep my mind busy.

Any courses or clubs I Join, I don't stick them out, I got bored with them too.

    The problem is your attitude.

Never thankful for what you have. Always wanting more.

You should try some Buddist writing and teachings.

    Appreciate the now

    Adult ADHD?

It sounds like you are running from something in your past and by not sitting still long enough you avoid having to face it. You're feeling anxious all the time you say, and you've filled up your mind with all this stuff. These comments suggest you are avoiding something and that you are actively distracting yourself from something going on underneath.

It sounds like you've been running for such a long time you wont know what it is you're running from consciously. If you look at your childhood, was it a happy and stable one? Any events affect you badly at the time, or ones that should have not at all?
If you look at your dreams do you ever get recurring ones where you're trying to find something you've lost, or where you're being chased, or chasing something that eludes you? You don't have to answer, it's just for yourself.
If you don't know why you are like this at the moment, the answer is in there somewhere, but you might have to explore it with some counselling, it could take a while to come to you.

im seconding the adult ADHD, it really seems to sound like this and i say this with experience.....

im not gonna say oh spent a fortune getting assessed..but maybe have a good read up on it and see what you want to do from there

you haven't found the one thing that will hold your attention and that isn't really a bad thing either you are living in the moment and hurting noone else...

thanks for your replies I appreciate all your advise.

Mr.Incognito - I have tried Buddist teachings, I have books and I always have a few budda figurettes around my home. I meditate and recently started Reiki.

Yes I have had a bad childhood, absent father and was bullied all through my teenage years, I went counselling many times, don't feel it worked for me, yes I felt like a weight lifted off me, but your problem is still there. I tend not to look back on my past but to look forward I am quite a positive person, however, I just cant seem to sit still. I always have to have something to look forward to , something to do something going on.

I have often thought of ADHD. back when I was a child there was no talk of autism or ADHD etc It is something I will look into.

I am similar in some ways OP and I definitely don't have ADHD. Is there any area in life where you feel particularly unfulfilled? Something you always wanted to do and was genuinely afraid to?

I thirdly agree! It's prob just ADD....I too suffer from it. I have worked from nursing to aircraft mechanic to bouncer etc etc....
A psychologist I know recently described it as a high functioning nervous system, a high firing rate in the synapsis...
There is medication but in my opinion it looks worse than the problem. Never taken it. But the issue does effect me.
