Interviews whilst on Jobbridge

    Hi all,

    I know this can be done, but how much notice do I need to give to my employer? Also how would one approach it, I don't want to burn a bridge with my employer.

    I was very open and honest about this from the get go. They can't tell you not to attend an interview so the ball is in your court really. If you can give them a few days notice then do, but if someone calls you in unexpectedly then I wouldn't feel guilty about it. So perhaps have a general chat with them, agree a process and say you will do your best to keep them posted.

    as long as you are grown up and professional about it.

    approach them and say you have an opportunity to progress and would like time off for the interview and any tips they could offer would be great.

    In my experience livedadream, its the employer who can be childish about it. When you're on jobbridge time off for interviews was a given, but employers were often a little weird about it.

    dont really see the relevance your point. i never said anything about the OP being childish or employers being difficult.

    you cant control that.

    they cant refuse its part of the jobbridge contract. yes they can be difficult but thats life.

    if they say no call in sick, have an appointment you have to go to or arrange someone to cover the work.

    Let's be frank here... you are working for free right now.... if someone else is possibly offering you a paying job then you have to do the interview... also you are sending a message to your jobbridge host company that you are in demand... if you stick with them then might never give you a job, or if they do it'll be at minimum wage (they know you are desperate for work, that's why youre on jobbridge, so you bargining position is weak)

    Tell your jobbridge boss you have an interview for a real job at a real company,, then make an off the cuff remark that with the economic upturn it great to see a lot of companies hiring again.

    Depending on how formal or casual the relationships are in your place it might be worth sending a casual email with a link to the site where it says you're entitled to time off for interviews, saying something like "I read here that I'm entitled to time off for interviews and since I've put in a few applications I was wondering do you know how this might work with regards to notice I need to give you for this time off etc., as that website doesn't seem to give that level of detail. Any chance we can chat to discuss what way this works?" Or something along those lines. Gentle reminder of your entitlements and allows employer to think about it and get back to you about how it should work going forward.
