" ..Citizens are advised to store enough food to last them 10 days, because initially a disaster might put national emergency services beyond reach.
Five days' water - two litres (half a gallon) per person daily - is advised...."

So what do we make of this: time to build the bunker as seen on Netflix?

Finally a war that Germany can get on the "right" side of.

    Third time lucky, I guess.

Maybe that wouldn't go amiss here, for the next time there's 1cm of snow on the roads?

    Indeed

Our 3 leaders having a bit of a George-W-Bush-aircraft-carrier moment as they met to demand greater EU military conglomeration.

It's not bad practice. Anything from disease outbreak to bad weather can cause a shortage of food and water. Stuck in a spot of bad weather a good while back, about 7 days of snow you couldn't drive through. Living in a rural area, pipes froze outside so we had to rely on whatever water was in the tank. That doesn't last very long.

Totally agree, Germany should never have gone into Schleswig-Holstein, just asking for trouble.

Multiculturalism is really good in that it teaches one to be more defensively minded/or have a big stash of Tesco canned fish in the house. That can always come in handy.

I support all of it, as I fear for my personal safety if I don't. Leftists are nice people though and it is completely necessary what they do because it would be awful to offend someone!

Gordon Brown's former adviser, Damian McBride made the exact same statement almost to the day 1 year ago, but it was in case of an impending stock market crash.
Stock up on canned food for stock market crash, warns former Gordon Brown adviser

Damian McBride said a coming economic crisis would be worse than the 2008 recession.

“Advice on the looming crash, No.1: get hard cash in a safe place now; don't assume banks & cashpoints will be open, or bank cards will work,” he tweeted.

“Crash advice No.2: do you have enough bottled water, tinned goods & other essentials at home to live a month indoors? If not, get shopping.

“Crash advice No.3: agree a rally point with your loved ones in case transport and communication gets cut off; somewhere you can all head to.”

"Be prepared" is rarely bad advice

People are making a bit too much of it imo

Can't do any harm to be prepared. I think Ireland could learn from Germany and organize themselves better in case of an emergency.

They'd add a rather hefty tax first, and then tell us to stock up. :D

I saw an article about potential flooding in London. IT was based around the floods of 1953

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Sea_flood_of_1953

There's doubt as to whether the Thames barrier could withstand it. The barrier was built in response to it but the barrier is now used to prevent flooding coming down the river, not water coming from the sea.

If there was an event like 1953 and there was flooding coming down from the river the barrier couldn't cope.

The article said that everyone should have a bug out bag. A bag with warm clothes for a few days and some food too. Simply because stuff like the Louisiana can happen to nearly any city in the world.
