Voted for by viewers or some sort of expert panel?

Sorry, had the link in my clipboard, just forgot to paste it in to my post, must have been the astonishment.

    Nothing older than 2000.
Suppose it should be celebrated that Dad's Army doesn't feature.

For me, The Goodies take some beating. Or Father Ted.

Of that list, only Peter Kay's Car Share made me laugh out loud. The rest, the ones I've seen, I could watch in stoney faced silence. Was The Office a comedy, even?

Maybe its my age, but a lot of my favourite sitcoms just miss out on this by a couple of years - I'm Alan Partridge (97), The Royle Family (98), Spaced (99)

As for Mrs Browns Boys at number one... there are no words...

I've made every effort to have only seen 5. Some amount of shîte on that list.

Rather than focus on the obvious negative I haven't watched any of the ones in bold. Are they to be recommended ? Similar to any particular older style comedy shows ? Thanks!

Loved Twenty Twelve - it was set in the run up to the London Olympics.W1A followed the main character working in the BBC post-Olympics

The Thick of it - think an updated Yes Minister, with a lot of added swearing. If you like politics this is one for you. Stars Peter Capaldi as a demented sweary spindoctor.

I'm guessing that the majority of Radio Times readers would be members of the "Blue Rinse Brigade", so it's probably not all that surprising that MBB came out on top. I'd be interested to see what the actual number of votes cast for each show were. I'd say there could have been quite a gap between first and second place.

Like that time A Nation Once Again by the Wolfe Tones topped a poll of the worlds favourite song

Excellent article in today's Guardian - I firmly place myself in the 'don't get it' camp... :)

I'm surprised Dr Farnsworth hasn't made an appearance in this thread yet

that said I guess you do have to consider the source of the poll, who is it exactly that votes via The Radio Times, probably people like your ma or grandma not yourselves.

    Green Wing is sublimely brilliant.

I have watched eight of them, that are highlighted in bold that includes MBB, in that list alone over the years.

I'm surprised that MBB made No.1 in this online poll.

It is not the best comedy by a long mile but it is meant to be described as a safe comedy for auld ones & the like.

I can add one more to watch that is not on the list. Vicious on ITV is also very funny but heartwarming to watch at times. But the sad thing is that it is being cancelled by ITV though & will bow out with a one off special on ITV until the end of this year.
