Has this bill been recently passed?

I have a number of questions on this since a previous mistake made in my youth is still haunting me today.

One night in feb 2002 I was arrested for no tax insurance and a DUI to top it off. In court I pled no constest and was banned from driving for 12 months and paid a fine of 1475 pounds.

Now with this spent convictions bill can I Finally stop telling car and home insurance companies that I have convictions? Or do I need to tell them about spent convictions?

The reason I ask is one insurer I tried recently flat out recused to insure me even though my last road traffic violation was 14.6 years ago.

Have I been wronged by this insurer or do I still need to pay €1200++ for the privilege of driving?

If you think this post sounds aggressive or angry.... your right ... but I would still like answers if someone with knowledge has 5 minutes to clarify where I stand regarding this act.

    Thanks

I believe it was enacted at the end of April. As for its contents why not read it have a google for the statute book, I can't post links.

As for being wronged by the insurer, if you disclose something then they're going to act accordingly, the act will tell you, in concert with trained legal advice if you need it whether you need to declare the information.

In the current insurance climate it's not bad there's another 10% premium hike coming with a further 16% been sought by companies for 2016/17

So you will still be paying a similar price for the privilege of driving unfortunately

I have already read the citizens information pages relatwd to rhe topic and am no wiser. If all your comments will be go research it yourself I'd ask you politely and with all due respect not to post this sort of nonsense. It feels like taking the mick a little.

However since your the only responder to my query I will offer a full hearted thank you for being the only person willing to attempt at all to help me. Thank you.

To be clear, I am asking for a legal opinion on the law about my circumstances
. Not my own or any other laypersons interpretation of the bill.

Again. Thanks to any poster willing to help.

As other posters have already explained legal advice may neither be sought nor given on this forum

Then you'll need to read the charter precluding such nonsense.

The Act is not hard to read and self explanatory. However if I give you my interpretation then I'm giving you legal advice which you may act upon.

Look at sections 5,6 and 8 also worth looking at section 9 if you travelling.

Thanks PHV, I would have liked to link it but for some reason, although I have 25 posts, I still can't post pictures or links.

Opinions, discussion all fine. Legal advice along the line of X legislation means Y in case Z isn't allowed for the protection of anyone who might think that relying on advice given by randomers off the internet is a good thing.

Had you asked something along the lines of 'my reading of S(X) of Act Y is Z people will generally correct you, the subtle difference is you're engaging with the material and not out and out asking for someone to tell you something. I did try and drop a hint.
