Any thoughts on if they deteriorate over time
Mine are about 10 years old

    Debating a change

Will try someone else's newer clubs out 1st but I think I may be losing 5-10% distance

I know the newer clubs are built with a stronger loft but having changed drivers recently from an old Taylor Made burner to an M1 I've seen a huge change off the tee

I Play off 9 and don't change stuff too easily
Everything else in the bag is also of that vintage

Not because they have deteriorate, but technology has moved on in the last 10 years.
Unless you hit the same irons with newer shafts, any experiment will be worthless.
But seen you've had them 10 years and if you don't want to change, a fitting for new shafts may make a significant difference, more so to dispersion than lenght.

Is being 10 years older yourself not a factor?

I have a set of Callaway X12 irons that must be over 10 years old at this stage and I haven't noticed any deterioration over that time.

So long as you keep them dry between rounds then rust or anything shouldn't be an issue. I am in the process of upgrading to some newer Callaway irons now all the same though!

I bought my titliest DCI 990's in 2000, they are still working very well. Haven't noticed any loss in pep at all. My previous set of Titliest tour model blades i bought in 1985....and i still use the sand-wedge from that set...I dont think steel shafts would ever lose performance by enough for you to notice it in distance. Technology changes aside - I still have the blades from 1985 and they perform just as well now as they did when i bought them, just not quite as user friendly as the musclebacked 990s.
