I'm looking for a lovely dark but warm grey shade for a feature wall

I have looked at dusty mulberry fleetwood paint, nightfall and several other fleetwood shades as that is what my painter wants to use. I think dusty mulberry seems like the warmest looking shade of grey but I'm afraid that when it is on the wall it will look a bit too purple. Has anyone else used this colour and if so, would you say it's more purple than grey??

i adore Moles Breath by Farrow and Ball. Beautiful earthy grey that looks fantastic in a feature wall.

Try Pantone Smoked Pearl. I have it in my hallway.

You can get it in Fleetwood prestige matt.

    Hi Playactor,

The Dusty Mulberry has got purple in it, as you thought. This makes it a warm grey, and looks lovely in the stock image on the fleetwood website (there's a room set image there, I can't attach the link, sorry!). The image can also be seen in the latest Fleetwood brochure.

As there is violet in the grey you need to make sure that whatever fabrics and furnishings (and even flooring) you have in the room won't fight with this. Generally speaking, cool and warm greys can fight with each other (unless the room is designed properly by a trained eye).

Some other suggestions on warm greys without violet are:

    Fleetwood Pantone Silver Sconce
Colourtrend Vintage Silver is lovely and may be just what you're looking for, I've worked with this before, it's lovely up. It's light but has more than enough presence as a warm grey.
Farrow and Ball Worsted 284 (New colour for 2016, it's a shade lighter than Mole's Breath which I think can be too gloomy for a bedroom).
Dulux Signature Mid Shadow and Pure Shadow look good too, although I haven't worked with them before.

You should always try a tester pot before committing. They're inexpensive when you pitch the price against having to repaint a whole room or live with the wrong choice. Paint the tester onto several wall sections, covering bright (where the sun hits) and dark (shadowed) zones, areas above lamps and at eye level.

    Hope I've helped.

Having gone through all the greys at this stage, I have found my favourites...

    Worsted - Farrow and Ball
Mole's Breath - Farrow and Ball
Downpipe - Farrow and Ball (Darker again, blue undertones)

    Grey Wolf - Colortrend

Backdrop - Moda by Dulux (almost has purple tone to it)

Always always get a sample and do 2 coats of it on a decent a4 size square, and check in different light because it will change the look of the colour!

Little Greene Scree. I have my entire living room painted in it. Might not be for some people to do the entire room but it's a stunning colour; a really deep bluish dark grey. I found Farrow and Ball Downpipe to have more greenish undertones.

I have Mole's Breath in the hall, stairs and landing and master bedroom. It's gorgeous colour which reacts well under natural light. I have Downpipe on some kitchen units and it really works there with green walls - I'd agree about the greenish undertones.

Haven't feature walls become a bit of a passing fad?

Don't worry about limiting yourself to just the standard Fleetwood range, they can digitally match any other provider's colours too.
