Id like to propose to my girlfriend. and i have a list of cool ways to do it. Next month we will be in lake como. I was thinking of hiring a sky writing company, and writing "emma will you marry me" across the sky as we have breakfast on the balcony ?

Or just a walk along the sea side and get down on one knee. (keep it simple)

But i just have to wow her..she isnt the type that asks for anything so i really want to give her everything.

We are also going to nyc in December, so i could do it there too..

    what do you think?

I think New York in December would be nice. New York is supposed to be beautiful all lit up with Christmas lights so they could add to the magic.

Make sure you know if she's the type who wants a 'public' proposal or not.
Some may want the whole getting down on one knee in front of somehwre famous with crowds about, but others may love the proposal just happening when getting back to the hotel room after a lovely day at those places.
Doing it away from home is a lovely and special thing to do. I'm not sure it needs much 'razzamataz' after that.
I think the skywriting isn't great but that's just my own opinion!

Have moved your thread to Weddings - you may get better responses here.

As a general rule women aren't all the same so what one would like, others might not.

Strangers on the Internet can't give you advise on what your girlfriend would like so I'll give my personal preferences. I'd have been quite put out if my husband had proposed with sky writing ... I'd consider it a complete waste of money and overly dramatic (and I hate drama). I'd have hated a public proposal. He proposed in a night hotel after taking me away for the night on a balcony overlooking a lake. It was private, he had some personal touches that meant a lot to me and it was perfect.

I saw a proposal along the lines of a sky writer recently, and it was incredibly cringe worthy. so no, definitely don't do that unless you're 100% sure your bride-to-be likes over the top gestures like that.

Like most of the others have said, I'd bloody hate a public proposal. Do you really want to be carrying a ring with you while you jog? That sounds risky amd uncomfortable.

I'd love the balcony proposal, minus the crappy sky writer. Just a heartfelt and romantic proposal in a romantic place.

You know your girlfriend best OP.
Some people would like the dramatic event so they can share it on Facebook and get lots of attention.
I would be mortified if my OH put me through something like that.

I think the writing in the sky sounds romantic and the proposal itself doesn't have to be public, there could a 1001 people who see the writing and wouldn't know who it refers to. You could joke when it flies by and she might wonder if it refers to someone else, til you say, well, how bout it? :)
Kinda sounds like fun. Jog in the park also nice idea. You don't have to jog with a huge container in your pants ( ha ha.. no puns intended) just put the ring in the key pocket that most jogging pants have. It could be quite private if you jog out somewhere nice and stop for a breather, kneel down to tie your shoe lace and pull out the proposal ring, if you're using one, that is.

In any case, it's just all our opinions here. You should really find out or know whether she wants the big hoopla or something quieter.

I think lake como sounds nice personally i would prefer that than a city proposal. Each woman is so vastly different. Either way im sure it will be lovely have a good think.

Engagement ring shopping in NY at Christmas would be very romantic, buy a token ring and pop the question when the right moment presents itself maybe?
