tp link archer c7 low speeds

I bought this router few weeks ago to connect to the virgin media technicolor tc2700 i already have to get a better wifi signal.

I am getting 150mbs on a 240mbs connect threw wifi in the same room as the router is this as high as i should be getting? I am getting about 40 or 50 mbs in my bedroom upstairs on 5ghz normal?

My main issue is that when i connect by cable from my pc to the technicolor box i get 240mbs. If i connect it to the tp link router i only seem to get around 150 max!

I dont understand whats causing this seeing as the router as far as im aware supports much higher speeds threw ethernet. Surely it should be matching the same speeds as the technicolor box?

Its the v2 version of the router also. Has anyone any ideas what might be the problem?

Your wireless device is probably using a 802.11n standard card, which is only capable of 150Mbps.

If it supported 802.11ac you should see the full speed.

Edit: Also 5GHz is very short range and when you throw a ceiling in the way, it will drop the signal a fair bit.

    He's tested wired MM ;)

C7 and C7v2 are both capable of 800+ Mb WAN to LAN so no way it should bottleneck even if you're double NATing. My guess is a craptastic patch cable is reducing your throughput. Tried swapping it out?

Missed that bit :o (I'm only just up out of my pit and haven't had cooffffeeeee zzzzzz :D).

I thought he said when wired the the C7 - not the TC.

Yep dodgy patch lead is the likely culprit there.

    Thanks for the reply!

It's an old cable I'm using alright was thinking could be this but it gives full speeds on the virgin box....

I actually tried another cable as well. The one I use for my ps4.

If it's not the cable any ideas?

Seems some people are having problem with Ethernet speeds on the archer c7 and resolved by disabling hardware nat

I mean the cable between the C7 and modem, not the one to your device.

Ah ok well it's the cable that came with it? Should I get something better?

Why not try one of the ones that you use to connect to the C7 for a start? If that works, then get a new one - make sure it's Cat5e or better.

Seems to be a firmware bug, go into the settings of the archer and set the bandwidth limit/control to 240mb.

Finally got around to doing this so i went into Bandwidth control Egress bandwidth to 24000 kbs and the Ingress bandwidth to 240000. Still getting 140 mbs max on the speed test.

Are you sure that when you connect by cable, it's not still connected to the wifi as well?

When i connect by cable its to my pc which doesnt have wifi.

So i went and bought new cat5e cable today just to make sure. Theres a new cat5e between both routers and i one connecting the tp link to the pc and its still only getting 150 where as my virgin media router is getting the full 240 or so.

The difference between the C7 and C9 is a dual core SOC IIRC but that shouldnt matter unless its doing some very heavy firewalling.

If you just want something turnkey I'd ask TP for a quick fix and otherwise RMA it for something else.

It should support more then 150 mbs from the get go though ? I cant seem to figure out why its not at the moment. Im talking to someone on live chat on the tp link site at the minute.

Yep, they've both benchmarked way higher (800).

So still no sign of this being fixed....

Went threw few different things updated the firmware again etc and still same speeds.

Said they would email me as she had to talk to someone else about it.

Virgin are replacing my router today so ill see how it compares then.

So it was my old upc router causing the issue. As soon as i plugged in the new virgin media hub and connected it to the tp link everything was fine. Plugged tp link into pc and i get 240 mbs on cable and wifi now.

I wouldnt mind but some **** from virgin came out and told me it was my new router that was the issue.
