    Hi,

A very close friend of mine is just after getting a large sum of money off her father, totally out of the blue.

Unknown to her father, she and her husband are having marriage problems to the point that she reckons that unfortunately separation may be on the cards.

She is looking for advice as she hasn't informed her husband of her fathers gift and doesn't think that she will in the event of their marriage ending up in separation / divorce.

    (1) Has she to inform her husband of the gift

    (2) How can she legally keep the gift from him if their marriage breaks down.

Legal advice can't be given here << advice deleted>>.

There's nothing in the charter precluding me from trying to get some of the very nice people here at the bar some work.

    Mod
Pls read the charter, and comply with it

    That is illegal advice.

<<comment deleted>>. I just need someone to come along and clarify if it's illegal or unlawful advice. Despite two threads on the subject I'm still confused.

    Mod rules, OK?

In the event of a separation she will have to disclose all her assets including the gift.
It will be a matter for the court to decide on proper provision for each spouse. Her means which include the gift would be taken into account.
