3rd and final grand tour of the year gets up and running with a team time trial. After last years farce of TTT this one should run alot smoother. Expect teams such as world champions BMC and Orica to be near the pointy end on this one.

It's seafood. Chorizo isn't all that.

Carlton Kirby just mentioned that Sean Kelly isn't on commentary duty with Eurosport today because he has Olympics commitments. Any idea what's that about?

The Olympics is a once-every-4-year sports competition involving a variety of sports.

Disaster of a start for Astana and their team leader Miguel Ángel López.

I thought Kelly was banned from all things Olympics. Or was that just competing?

Weird & poor effort by Tinkoff there. Nearly a full team most of the way to the finish, suggesting maybe not going hard enough, & then giving up a minute. Not the best start for team morale - given how little of a team they looked in the TdF.

Poor by Tinkoff, though it says something when your best supporting rider for Contador is a sprinter, Bennati.

I would have thought in Waterford for the Tour de Sean Kelly

So Contador is already almost a minute down on Froome, Quintana and Valverde... What a nightmare of a start!

How are the GC times set after the TTT? Does every member get the team time?

The time of the first five riders from a team is recorded when the fifth rider of that team crosses the line.

The four remaining riders get their own individual time when they crossed the line.

So for Team Sky last night, Kennaugh (1st), Puccio (2nd), Kwiatkowski (3rd), König (4th) were all given the same time as Froome (5th). Lopez was 6th for Sky, but he was given as nine seconds behind.

Kennaugh got the red jersey because he was the first rider across the line.

Is it just eurosport showing this? I see highlights for later on ITV 4 but was expecting them to have live coverage or even TG4 thought one of them did it last year

TG4 had live coverage for the last two years, but they don't seem to be covering it this year unfortunately.
