Heat Recovery Ventilation & Smoke

    Hi,

One question on Heat Recovery Ventilation systems - we are gutting and extending our house which is in a row of houses which are not in an area covered by the smokey coal ban.

On a calm day smoke (either cheap & nasty smokey coal or turf) can drift down and engulf the house, esp early in the evenings when fires first put on.

If we go with a Heat Recovery Ventilation system, which we want to, will this just draw outdoor smoke an pump it around inside the house? The smoke in general is a real problem for us and I just want to make matters worse by bringing it into the kids bedrooms.

    Thanks

    Ciaran

The air is coming from the outside, its not recirculating, so it will bring in that air.
There are filters on the incoming air.
You can buy carbon filters which do an even better job of filtering (removing smells, pollen etc).

Ultimately you will still be pulling in that air, whether the filters will be good enough for you is impossible to say.

Where the air inlets are placed will be key I suppose.

I'd say you need an installer onsite to discuss the best place to put them.
