FIS and JSA query

My partner and I have two young kids. I work full time, she claims JSA for the 4 of us which is means tested on my income.
We are under the income limit for FIS between us but when I applied the reply said that we were better off by €4 per week by staying as we were. It didnt give an option to proceed with it.
By my calculations if she stops claiming SW and I just claim FIS we would be €40+ worse off per week. I am wondering how they came to the €4 calculation. Can she claim SW for herself and the kids and drop my part of the claim maybe?

My partner has been attending Turas Nua meetings for a while and they are really pushing her into finding work. With two kids under 3 and the fact that she cant drive a full time job would be a bit of a logistical nightmare. The cost of childcare doesnt help matters either.

What is the best option for our situation.

If your partner isnt available and looking for full time work then perhaps it would be best if you apply for FIS again and she can then close her JA claim. From what I can gather from what you are saying is that you are better off financially with her claiming JA rather than you getting FIS. She cannot just claim SW for herself and the children... your means from employment have to be assessed.

Its up to you as a couple to decide what is best for you but if the figures dont add up with childcare etc then it may be best that you apply for FIS.

Remember when you are doing the calculations for FIS its your net income that is calculated.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah we are thinking of closing her claim and applying for Fis. Does this mean she has no entitlement to a sw payment that it would just be my wage and fis?
Also do you close the claim before applying or wait until approved for Fis?

Wait until you are approved for FIS. She wouldnt have a JA claim if you are better off as a family on FIS.
