    For the oldest in the world, are you specifically going for a photograph as defined now, or would you include a daguerreotype?

    Today is World Photo Day, marking the invention of photography. Just wanted to know what was the first photo in Ireland gether.

    I do know the following are the earliest known colour images were in 1913

    And that an Irish guy helped develop a colour photo process (John Joly in 1894)

    But no idea on the earliest of any form of photography, be curious to find out.

    Although the earliest surviving Irish photographs date from the 1840s, the bulk of the most valuable and historically informative material in public collections dates from the 1860s onwards, a time when Ireland, in common with most western countries, was beginning to be gripped by photomania.

    When I studied photography, we were taught that the first photograph, "'View from the Window at Le Gras' was taken by Nicéphore Niépce in the 1820s. It was known as heliography, developed from lithography.


    No idea on the first photograph taken in Ireland, but Edinburgh-based photography pioneers Hill and Adamson certainly took a very early photograph of an Irish person, a harpist, who visited Edinburgh in the early 1840s.

    that's a fantastic site i kid you not i had the whole house to myself last weekend and i spent the whole day just looking at all the photos..... i need to get out more lol :D:D:D
