State-savings bonds

    This might be the wrong section to post, but has anybody got these. I am thinking of putting a bit away in a 10yr bond @25%.

    Some of my friends say no as inflation will kill any gains, but I can't see any bank account anyway giving such rates over the long term, and its dirt free I think.

    Well you're not going to get 25%? Where did you see this?

    The 10 year state bond is 1.5% per year which results in 16% after 10 years.
    It is tax free.

    There was a 10 year state savings bond that yielded 25% but that was done away with ages ago.
