Google Play Music Family Deal

Hey, didn't see another thread on this. Google Play Music's family deal arrived in Ireland (finally) yesterday.

Normally you pay €10 for a single account. The family deal is €15 and allows you invite 5 family members to join. They have their own separate account with their own library of music preferences and saved albums. So essentially you're getting €60 worth of Google Play Music accounts for the price of €15.

The definition of 'family' btw is limited only to that person being in the same country as the primary account owner.

I thought Spotify limited it to people at same address

I do recall limitations regarding the same email and so many devices on a single plan. But having limitations within an address would defeat the purpose of a family plan.

Just look under get started it states all must reside at same address

They may well do, I don't use that service and I've been waiting for months for the family deal to arrive on Google Play... which it finally did yesterday!

Unless you have some eclectic taste in music Google Play is a very comprehensive library. I can't really compare to other services but I really enjoy the "mood" playlists they create. It was a bit hit and miss at the start but whatever learning algorithm they have is genius because it serves me music I enjoy 90% of the time. The app itself is visually appealing and easy to use.

How would that even be enforced though? They only take the CC details of the account owner surely? What other proof would they be able to get of address?

A quick Googling and a reddit thread popped up with this question. A few people there use the family plan and live no where near each other, never mind at the same address.

Oh I have no idea how they would enforce it just pointing out the difference as Google only limits to same country

One of my mates uses the one of our family accounts in London while the rest of us are all in Dublin. Never had any issues

I am not saying it cant be done I am just pointing out their Terms It Probably leaves it open for them in the future if they choose to enforce it

    Have you a link?

    Have you a link?

You want a link for a Google service? This is like Google-inception :pac:

    https://play.google.com/store

Go into Music and you should have the options to either buy music or sign up for their streaming service. I'm already registered so when I go there it just shows me my account.

If you already have a Google/Gmail account you already have the free service (you can only listen to music you upload), you just need to provide payment details in order to get the full streaming service.

Apart from exclusives, the library should be largely similar to that of other streaming services. The kicker for Google Play though is the fact that you can upload your own MP3s and stream them as normal. The likes of Prince and Neil Young have little to no music on these sites, and quite a few acts have albums that are missing. Uploading your own files can come in very handy.

The only downside to it IMO is that there's less of a social aspect to it. You can't easily follow what others are listening to or discover curated playlists like you can with other sites, and when you see a playlist someone posts online it's almost always Spotify. Apart from that I quite like it.

Didn't know you could upload and stream your own music.
    Thanks for that!

Have been trying to figure out a simple (ideally free) way of doing this for ages. I have about 30GB of music on MP3 player and backed up on Hard Drive at home, but with no real way of accessing it mobile. I'm sure there's a storage limit on Google Play, but hopefully will allow for a decent chunk of stuff.

To be fair, I haven't actually looked into it, just thought there was nothing like that. I have music on OneDrive at the moment, but my phone fully downloads the files every time I play them which is a pain and keeps filling my SD card.

    Editing to add:
You can add up to 50,000 songs to Google Play Music from your personal music collection using Google Play Music for Chrome or Music Manager (up to 300MB per song). Once you've added your music, you can listen to it through the Google Play Music app and on your computer.

Music purchased from the Google Play Store doesn't count towards your song limit.

Only problem I found is it won't let you cast to Chromecast audio, or rather it will for some songs and not for others which was a real pain and caused me to stop using it..

At the moment I'm having a pain in my arse trying to upload the 30-odd albums I have on my OneDrive.
Might not be as simple as I assumed. Although issue may be due to trying to pull from one cloud storage to another.
Thanks for the options anyways guys. I will get access to my musical stockpile eventually
