I want to change my name in the UK but I'm not sure how to go about it. I've used my new one for around two years on various junk mail but also on some online accounts. Now I want to change the name on the driving licence. Can you please tell me how it's done?

I can't post links so go to a search engine, such as google and type in "name change UK", click the top link deedpoll dot org. Watch the video featuring TV's Michael Buerk in the tiny, tiny window.

Why anyone would want to keep changing their name though is beyond me of course...

Some people don't like their name. Simple. I'm blessed to have a normal (albeit boring) name, but if I was cursed with a name like Eulick McGee, or Dick Rogers, I would soon be changing it to Rockstar McChampion. But seriously, if I had an awful name, I would change it.

In case of any difficulties we clarify that McGee and Rogers are both highly respected surnames, especially in Donegal.

So I might only seek to change the first names if living in Donegal ;)

Joking aside, I do have to question the state of mind of some people who burden their children with such names. Setting ones child up to be the butt-end of every other joke is not cool. I'm only talking about first names of course.

Someone remarked recently that should the sacrilege of a woman being cast as Bond on this or a future iteration one would have to make up funny sexual pun male names, the top contender being Roger Moore.
