    Hi,

I just bought my first straight razor on Amazon and I would need to hone it. Could you please advise a place in Dublin where can I get it honed and how much would that cost?

    Thank you!

Have been looking for this myself, not sure if there's anywhere in dublin. Want to pick up a straight razor but not planning to hone it myself. Too dear to chance wrecking. Stropping it looks handy enough

colly10 - try this: http://www.whippeddog.com/products/view/sight-unseen-razor - fully shave ready - don't even need to strop it when you receive it. Stropping is easy.

I don't know anywhere that does honing in Ireland - but Larry at Whipped Dog also does a DIY honing service where he sends you a razor to hone and you send it back for him to provide feedback. Or he can hone your razor for you - http://www.whippeddog.com/services/view/honing

I'll do it if you guys want. Just let me know what razors you have bought.

I want to make sure the razor can actually be honed before committing time to it.

I think i'll be going for a half hollow dovo blade. Going to do a bit more reading into them before i make a final choice.
Hopefully pick one up with the honing done.
Thanks for the info and the offer :)

Dovos can take a nice edge. The offer is still there if it's needed.

Seriously consider Whipped Dog. I got my straight from him and it's top class. Save yourself a fair bit of money too. Got the straight and the poor man's honing kit for about €70 delivered.

Can vouch for whipped dog. Got my straight this week. Postage took 10 days. Very happy with the service (athough the razor could be crap for all I know :pac:). Just tried it out tonight and happy enough.

I got an excellent honing job done a few years ago by this British company https://www.theinvisibleedge.co.uk. I can definitely recommend them.
