04 A3 Engine warning lighting flashing this morning....

    car is struggling for any power and barely pulling in any gear.
    There is a rattle sound coming from it also.
    First time in 4 years this light has flashed on.

    Booked the fecking thing in for a service yesterday with George Dalton, for Oct 1st.
    Fecking typical!!

    just about got me to work, no time to look at it til after work, so anyone got any ideas/thoughts on what might be the issue? It sounds and feels serious enough to me! Oil levels are fine.
    Car hasn't given me a moments trouble in 4 years.

    Is it petrol?

    Sounds like its a coil if it is, which is a fairly small and easy fix.

    It is petrol yeah, sorry should have stated.

    It will be either the coil or one of the plug leads Terry.

    If you're only after filling it, are you sure it was petrol and not diesel

    I will give it a try at lunch and see what happens. Presume its best to get that fixed asap and any local garage could do it?

    Yeah, engine light flashing indicates a misfire - coil, spark plug or lead are the usual suspects.

    Cheers, it does sound and feel like a misfire. Not had experience of them in cars before but I have with bikes and it seems very similar.
