If I buy a car that is out of tax from a motor dealer, on the last day of the month - will I have to pay motor tax for the whole month?

    As clarification for future viewers.

As buyer you pay tax from the first day of the month you purchase car in.
So if you buy it on 25th September you still have to pay tax from 1st September.

So if you insist on buying a car without current tax, wait until the first of the month to buy it.

or declare it off the road immediately and pay for tax from the first of next month

    Yes, but ...

"You can cancel the declaration at any time by renewing your tax in your local motor tax office – the validity of the tax disc will commence from the first day of the month in which you tax the vehicle."
