Just looking for some advice in relation to Beads V Cavity Spray Foam for insulation. We have gotten price €3,000 for beads and €10,000 for the foam which is obviously A LOT dearer.

Just wondering why there is such a difference. Is the foam really that much better? Has anyone had feedback on the beads also?

    Thanks

Whats the thermal conductivity of both products?

    Laura welcome to boards

    We need more detail

    Width of cavity?
    location/exposure?
    detached house?
    New build?
    Etc etc

Hence, the broken record: what has your arch tech recommended ?

Admitting there's a problem is the first step :)

If you search you will find a number of threads on Boards on beads vs foam. What type of foam were you quoted for?

You can check the thermal performance of the material you are considering on the NSAI site http://www.nsai.ie/Our-Services/Certification/Agrement-Certification/Search-Agrements-Certificates.aspx

    Thanks for the replies :-)

My partner is looking into the thermal conductivity.

In relation to the other queries:

    - Width of cavity? 150mm
    - It's a new build, detached storey and a half in the country.

I've looked at other threads but they seem quite old...wasn't sure if things had changed over the past few years or not.

I think I need to get more information before I can get some advice on this - thanks everyone for taking the time to reply though!

If you went to a 200mm cavity and bead fill would that cost less than say an additional €6k
My preference would be for bead

Depending on the foam - it may give you a layer of airtightness which could offset the cost somewhat. It does a great job of sealing around your windows especially if you set back the inner leaf.

I got it done on a 75mm cavity and it worked out about 3 times the price over bead, but the larger the cavity the greater the difference. Also, 2 points for a cavity that wide: the foam can really expand so make sure the installer knows what their at and do it before plastering either outside or inside. It generates quite a bit of heat when curing and can apparently cause small cracks in fresh plaster.

when getting pumped bead insulation for 150mm cavity, how do you actually know it has been fully pumped to all areas?
and not air gaps all over the place?? I'm sure its worthwhile for the insulation company to use less on each house.

anybody info on pumped bead insulation welcome?

Thermal camera post install, & pressure gauge in pump during install
