Changing mind on Done Deal

Hi, I recently listed an item on Done Deal and agreed with a caller that if he sent me a bank draft I would send him the item. All simple enough. However the bank draft is due to arrive tomorrow and now I realise that I do not want to sell the item. Can I change my.mind? I just want to send the bank draft back to him and back out of the sale. Can I do this?

    Maybe contact DoneDeal themselves https://hello.donedeal.ie/hc/en-us/requests/new

Either way, wait for the bank draft to clear. Same for a cheque.

Never send / give / deliver the item until you are *sure* the funds are in your account.

There are lots of bogey bank drafts out there.

Lots of scams start with a bank draft, which turns out to be dud.

Wouldn't the buyer have some (small) costs for getting the draft and sending it? So you will also have reimburse them. Have you contacted the buyer and what did they say?

Haven't said anything yet. Yes he would have incurred about three euro I think to get the bank draft and I have thought of that, and would re imburse him for that. The bank can advise me on returning a bank draft, the issue I am grappling with is how obliged am I to complete a sale once it gets to this stage (bank draft, presumably genuine, is posted) or can I still opt out? I have messaged Done Deal but haven't heard from them yet.

As I said in another post, I spend a lot of time checking authenticity of large online orders for a company. A classic scam is to send a bank draft. Banks draft is an outdated form of payment and expensive and time consuming. Unless the customer is old fashioned or elderly I would suspect this is suspicious. A bank draft on an Irish bank can take 5 days to clear and a further 2 days for you to be notified, so I would not send out any goods based on receiving the bank draft. If the draft is on a non Irish bank, it can take up to 28 days to be certain it has cleared. There are a substantial number of fake bank drafts out there and you should be very suspicious of payment in that form from someone you do not know.

Why would the OP be bothered about whether the draft is good or not, if they're just sending it back.

OP Just send the draft back and apologise for possibly wasting the buyers time.

Thank you everyone. I contacted the buyer ( no response ) and will return the BD with their costs (draft fee/postage) attached to it. Done Deal said the same thing, just contact the buyer and return draft. Simple. Feel bad but at least the consensus is that I can withdraw sale at this stage.
