New Employer - Contract does not state Maternity/Paternity Leave/Rights anywhere?

    Hello Boards.ie readers,

    I was hoping someone with HR/employee rights background can offer any advice about a contract that does not mention Maternity Leave.

    I don't plan on having kids anytime soon, but should this happen, I would like to have the comfort in knowing I would still retain my job.

    Should Maternity leave be mentioned? The HR manager was very friendly and seems very nice and said don't be too worried about all the detail in the contract, the company apparently got a legal team to make it on their behalf. I find it strange that it is not mentioned anywhere.

    It is a smaller company than what I have worked with before but what are my rights, if any? Should I mention this before signing?

    in my experience they are more likely to be mentioned in the employee handbook than in the contract.

    Your rights will be based on what's legally required, they don't need to be spelled out in the contract.

    If you have worked in larger places before, they may have offered things like paid maternity leave. This would be very rare to get from a small employer
