I was advised to do celta training, I have a tefl certificate but its not ACELS accredited, I had some job interviews and they told me if I had the celt or celta I would have been hired, only problem is I cant afford it but was informed I can get finding as im on jobseekers allowance. I really wanted to sign up for the August course so I could start job searching for September, ive been into intreo every other week for the past 2 and half months trying to get an appointment. The receptionist takes my name and number and tells me someone will call within the next week but no one rings, ive said how many times ive been in an how I still havnt gotten an appointment, What do I do? im going in again tomorrow but it feels pointless at this stage.

Have you registered on www.mywelfare.ie and tried to make an appointment through that? At least there you can select an appointment rather than waiting for some civil servant who's probably not going to bother ringing.

can you call into your DSP office and explain to them you have been trying to do this course and cant get an info from Intreo?

they might be able to push it for you.

No ive tried talking to them but they're so rude, they just shouted at me and told me if I do a course ill lose my benefits because it means im not available for work. They wont even listen.

Have you asked for a contact number for activation services or a case officer covering your area? Thats who you need the appointment with.

Ive been trying to get a case officer for over a year, I could be talking to the wall. Because I provided them with proof that im looking for work by showing them piles of emails and job applications they dont think I need a case worker or need to speak to anyone. Its hopeless.

Go to a local Obair and they'll do it for you. The Intreo staff are generally rude and useless.

If you put this complaint into writing then intreo have to deal with it. I don't remember where l read this but l do know it's true.

Thanks childsplay, im going to go into them again today, if I dont get a call by next week I think the next step will be to just make a complaint.

Depending on where you you live, the process to see a case officer can be a bit silly. I live in a big enough town, but to make an appointment to see a case officer in my area, I have to call the main social welfare office in my county (10 miles away), and a short time later they call back to say the appointment has been made. Then, a few days or so later, you receive a letter with details of the appointment.

Im not even looking to speak to a case officer just anyone that can give me information. Seems like its easier to get appointments in your town than it is here. I might try contacting a different intreo centre and just travel up to it because im getting nowhere in my own town.
