Speculative CVs - do people send them anymore?

I've have quite a few years of experience in Personal Insurance under my belt. There's one particular aspect of Insurance that I would very much like to get a foot in to but - opportunities seem to be very few and far between and few companies operate in this area.

Under the circumstances, would it be of any use to send in a speculative CV to the companies concerned? Is there any reasonable hope at all of the CV being referred to if a new spot was being recruited for? I'm constantly keeping an eye out for openings myself of course. Opinions & perspectives appreciated

    Gracias

I've done it in the past but never had any success from it.

Would suggest using LinkedIn as a tool and sending messages to recruiters who work in this area.

Do you have any contacts (old colleagues etc.) who work in this area now and that you can reach out to?

'fraid I don't have any contacts working in the area. Only a handful of companies operate in this area so if I did have some it would be handy alright.

Just wondering if anyone had any success stories that might provide some encouragement!

I've also done it in the past without success. A tailored CV and cover note for a specific role seems to be the way to go from my experience. As said before linkedin is also a great took for connecting with people in the industry.

I recommend joining "groups" on LinkedIn that are associated with your industry, as they are often places recruiters go to find talent.
