Only for golfers really but this is a great offer from UK with free courier to Ireland.

Mizuno JPX850 set 5 Wedge to PW for €355 extra €65 for the 4 iron.

The JPX850 range is due for replacement soon (next few weeks) so all shops will be offloading but this is a good deal and at least they should be genuine Mizuno there are lots of copies on the second hand market.

I think all the mainstream manufacturers are following the same strategy reducing the number of clubs.
Their logic from reading the boards, 4 irons are optional because most mid to high handicappers are using hybrids. Most golfers would also prefer pick there own 52 degree to 60 degree clubs.
But in the end you are right manufacturers have reduced the number of clubs in sets, in the US a lot of sets still go from 5 iron to SW.

In Europe we pay more get less.

Still a good deal in my opinion, mine got delivered this morning, range beckons this evening:cool:

3/4 iron, who uses them anymore, hybrids do the same job and can work from the rough unlike their iron equivalent.
Prefer my own wedges, most do these days.
I'd actually ditch the 5 iron too if possible.

    Decent price

What's actually happened is makers have decreased the lofts on their irons to give golfers the idea they are hitting their irons ten yards further than their old irons. In effect they are hitting a 3 iron with a 4 written on the bottom of it. What's actually happening is that they are no longer selling sets with pitching wedges (the pitching wedge is actually a 9 iron). People now shell out for a set of irons and have to pay up to another €100 for a "gap" wedge and another €100 for a hybrid.

Is anyone selling Irons with the proper loft on them? Im thinking of changing soon (for absolutely no reason) and I'm not sure I like the idea of my 6 iron being a 5 iron.

    Love my 4 iron btw!!

In general the beginner and intermediate sets will have the lower lofts (taylormade m2, wilson D200). Iron sets for the more experienced players will have the higher lofts. Mizuno in general would be pretty consistent with their lofts.

In fairness nearly all manufacturers make the lofts available (just google the model name and the word loft) so you possibly could match the lofts of your current set. At the end of the day I wouldn't worry about it too much. Iron numbers, at the end of the day, are like your age, just a number ;)

As Aesop says, its easy find the lofts of any set of irons with google. Its only the clubs aimed at lower handicap players that have a more "traditional" loft. Most if not all game improver irons have some degree of adjusted loft though it is possible to find the odd set that aren't. Titleist AP2s if I recall have a standard enough loft though that may not be the case any longer.

I had been playing with Callaway Big Bertha irons from 2004, there is a 1 degree less loft difference as others mentioned, I hadn't checked at all until it was mentioned here.
Overall club weights are very similar also within 5 - 10 grams per club but the Mizuno feels a lot lighter and more balance in the swing, only played once so far with the Mizuno but they are very nice and as long as the ball makes contact anywhere on the face the shot seems to be OK. I seem to be getting about an extra 10 yards with each club maybe that is to do with reduced loft but the ball height seems to be about the same. Funny sound off the new clubs but thats a matter of getting used to.
For €416 (I took the 4 iron also) it was a good deal. Hindsight I would not have taken the 4 iron, I have a 4 & 5 Hybrid so the 4 iron will not get used.... roll on tomorrow morning to get going again.:D:D

This thread lead me down a rabbit hole of reading up on the history of various club numbers, lofts, non-wood woods, etc, last night and now - as having not played golf in a few years - feel more confused than ever.
