I was laid off a while back from work but I'm looking for work and hopefully going to collage pending the CAO rounds, Do I have to claim jobseekers cause this hassle from turas nua every week is a pain and I'd rather find a job at my own pace ? If I dont claim welfare does this mean turas nua have no control over me.

Turas Nua is just for job seekers.

There's no guarantee that all job seekers will have to participate in Job Path / Turas Nua, you might not get called.

If you dont claim, apart from having no income, questions may be asked later as to what you lived on while not claiming, if its saving well then fair enough.

No hiding place is safe from the long arm of Turas Nua.

    There is no escape :(

Except in your case there is :) because you have to be claiming for 12 months before being sent on Jobpath.

Giving up your jobseekers payment may be just scuppering yourself in the long run. You would have a gap in state pension payments later, unless you signed on for credits. And giving up a Jobseekers payment ends your options of getting Back to Education Allowance or onto a CE Scheme or whatever. Savings quickly reduce when there is no income so not a great option either. Have you informed Turas Nua that your priority is college pending the CAO outcome? Are they forcing you onto something that you couldn't leave if a college place comes up? Any way you could play ball with them just to keep your options open?

Turas Nua is initially for the long term unemployed or people who are refer directly by the DSP.

you dont say if you are actually claiming a payment?

if you are then you can be referred.

if your not then you cant be referred. simples.

you dont have to claim anything from the government if you dont want it and/or have the means to support yourself.

Not claiming could adversely affect your entitlement to claim jobseekers or pension benefits in the future. Plus it locks you out of eligibility for lots of different schemes.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
