I have no home broadband. I want to get connected by I prefer not to pay by direct debit which Eir insist on for new customers. Does anyone know which providers don't insist on direct debit ?

When I switched to Digiweb a few months ago, they gave the option of paying by direct debit, debit card or credit card, so I went with my debit card. It is still automated where they charge the card on file roughly a week after the bill, however, I can also log in before then to pay the bill directly such as with another card. So that may be worth considering if you are just looking to pay by credit or debit card.

Just note that they do the telephone by VoIP where you plug the corded phone directly into their router. We use Dect phones, so that's not an issue, but I've heard it has been for some people that prefer to use corded phones such as in a shed that a cordless phone has trouble reaching.

If you don't need a phone package, their DSL broadband which they call NextGen is €40/month. I'm not sure if they do a broadband-only option for Fibre, however, their Fibre or NextGen DSL package with telephone (anytime Ireland/UK inc. mobile calls) is €50/month.

Have you asked if Eir will allow you to cancel the dd after a couple of months or do they only accept payment by dd?

They certainly can take card payments on the website at least, though I don't know if you can cancel the DD too.
