Malaysia Airlines Online Check In

Hey, looking from advice for anyone who has flown with MA before. I'm flying with Aer Lingus to LHR then LHR to KL and KL to Melbourne both with MA. I've just tried to check in to my flights as it's now 48 hours before hand but Aer Lingus will only let me check into their flights online, and when I try check in on MA I get this message:

Your departure flight is not available for check-in at this time. See a Customer Service Agent at the airport for assistance.

I'm not sure if the issue is that I haven't checked into the Aer Lingus flight yet (not sure if I should if I can't check into all the flights at once) or because the KL-Mel leg is still outside of the 48hour window, or if I just can't check in for these flights online at all?

I wouldn't be against checking in at the airport because my flight from Dublin is in the evening so shouldn't be too busy, but I don't know if Aer Lingus can issue me the boarding passes for my next two flights, and my transfer in LHR is only 2.5 hrs so I don't want to mess around with checking in at the terminal there...

Who did you book with? If you enter your name and reservation code into "My Trips" on the Aer Lingus site does it show all your flights or just the Aer Lingus ones?

    From the Aer Lingus site:

Onward check in (on same day of travel) is available on selected Aer Lingus flights and with the following airlines:

    AA American Airlines
    AF Air France
    AY Finnair
    BA British Airways
    B6 Jetblue Airways
    CX Cathay Pacific
    EK Emirates
    IB Iberia
    KL KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
    QF Qantas
    SQ Singapore Airlines
    UA United Airlines

EI list MH as an airline for onward baggage:

    Baggage with Other Airlines

We’ll happily through-check you and your baggage onto any airline with a baggage agreement in place. This can only happen if you’ve documentation of the itinerary showing Aer Lingus and the partner carrier flights on the same ticket.

The baggage allowance for these itineraries will be subject to the allowances listed on your ticket. Please contact your local reservations office for further information if you’re unsure of applicable baggage allowances.
    Baggage with Other Airlines

We’ve baggage agreements with the following airlines:
Air Canada Air France Air New Zealand Alaska Airlines American Airlines British Airways Cathay Pacific City Jet China Airlines Delta Airlines El Al Airlines Emirates Etihad Finnair Gulf Air Iberia JAL (Japan Airlines) JetBlue Airways Kenya Airways KLM Malaysian Airlines Martinair Qantas Qatar Airways SAS Singapore Airlines South African Airways Sri Lankan Airways Thai Airways United Airlines US Airways Virgin Wideroe Airlines

Booked with ebookers. When I go to the check in screen on aer lingus all the flights are there but the MA ones are greyed out and I can't check into them. I know they should forward my bags ok I just don't know if I can check into the all the flights in Dublin or not

Someone else asked about this before here: http://touch.boards.ie/thread/2056956902

    One of the replies stated:

If it is on one ticket they should check it through to your final destination.

They should be able to print boarding passes but if not you can pick them up at the Malaysian desk at the Flight Connections centre in Heathrow.

Is there a flight connections centre in every terminal in LHR or is there just one? Because I read that aer lingus can take transfers from T2 to T4 airside but I don't want to miss the connections terminal if it's not in T4. I assume I can just go to the MA desk in T4 and they can print my boarding pass?

    Really simple

Rock up to the Aer Lingus check in desk in Dublin
Aer Lingus will check you in for both flights and should be able issue boarding cards for both
Get to LHR, follow purple signs for flight connections and take the bus to T4 (you DO NOT need a boarding card to use the connecting bus)
You will have to pass through security again
If you need a boarding card collect it at the Malaysia desk in T4 connections

If you can try to select your seat with Malaysia Airlines online if its possible this ensures Aer Lingus can issue the boarding card, otherwise its a bit hit and miss depending on the airline systems (works for BA, not UA etc)
Aer Lingus will also do the visa checks, so you won't have further hassle en route

Thanks so much! I can't seem to choose my seat on the MA site, when I go into manage my booking I can see the flights but can't interact because it was a third party booking presumably. I was hoping to choose seats on online check in but I guess I'll have to hope they can do it in the airport!

Aer Lingus will subject to space allocate you seats you like to Heathrow, but they have very little control over seating on other airlines.

    So
You get the seat you picked
You get the seat preference as set by the travel agent (window/isle, upper or lower deck)
    You get a random seat
Can't check in, get boarding card in LHR T4, but luggage is tagged to final destination

If not happy with the seats it the Malaysian desk in LHR T4 who can change them Malaysian seem to have a low load factor out of LHR so you might get lucky with a whole row to yourself..

Hey having the same problem with MA I'm unable to web check in. I've checked in with air leingus but none of my MA flights it is under the 48hrs and I've called MA but they had poor English so I was unable to explain to them what was the problem. How did you end up getting checked in ?

Same as above, just go to a staffed Aer Lingus check in desk in Dublin (Or Cork/Shannon/Belfast as appropriate) drop off the bag and ask for the onward boarding cards. If that doesn't work just go to flight connections in Heathrow.

Aer Lingus can issue boarding cards for a lot more airlines than listed on their website.

Ryanair has made everyone obsessed with online check in, Malaysian are a full service airline, they are more than happy to see you at the check in desk with a smile.

I've done some of the route before. Aer Lingus will check your bags through to the destination but they are unlikely to be able to issue you boarding passes for all sectors. As described already, get your LHR boarding pass in Dublin, then in London take flight connections route and the bus to T4 - thy'll print your boarding passes for the other flights at the transfer desk. If queried on your way through in London you just say where you are flying to and that you've to collect your boarding pass at the gate.
If you want to choose a seat you might be able to do it over the phone?
