I thinking of picking up a car to use for the next 12months or so as the Turbo on my current one is on its way out [07 VAG BKD ]

Ideally id like to trade in current car worth maybe 4-5K privately and maybe up to 2K

I was thinking something like a 06-08 jazz/yaris auto would probably hold its value best over the next year ?

Only need it a year as ill hopefully be getting a 172 next Aug

    Thanks for any help/advice

Buy a cheap banger with a long NCT like a Toyota Corolla. Buy it cheap and sell it cheap or maybe avail of a scrappage deal on a new in 2017. Have a look at the bangernomics thread for suggestions too.

Have you priced fitting a reconditioned turbo and keeping your current car for another 12 months, surely that is going to be cheaper than trading up now only to trade up again in 12 months time? Your current car is not going to be worth as much as you think now if it has a dodgy turbo.

Most cars devalue at about 20% reducing balance,

    I.e. a 20 grand car will lose 4k year 1, 3.2k year 2, 2.56k year 3 and so on...

Obviously there are exceptions but the lower the value then generally the lower the depreciation

But old cars may not be as fuel efficient, have higher tax, might need repairs etc so balance it all up

I'd say something like an older yaris or micra would be cheapest if I was purely financially driven that's where I would look
