How about a quad pulled weed cutter ? A tool like a weed licker except instead of a rolling carpet have say a length of piano wire 8-10 ft wide a few inches above the sward ! Driven at speed would slice the Base of strong ragwort or thistles? If not slicing clean it would definitely buckle enough to kill eventually! Anything of the sort about? If not there must be a good reason ?if the field was grazed tight before going in it could work a treat? I can't explain what I picture but I can't see why it wouldn't work ! Like a scythe effect

rig up an old horse drawn mower to the quad? not sure how fast you'd go with it though
