    Hi ,
Just to confirm I have a flight with Ryanair next week, can I just get the boarding passes on my phone/tablet ?

Or do I need to physically print them ? - I ask because I remember Ryanair used to charge $40 to print boarding passes - haven't flown with them in years.

The App works very well. Not a problem with boarding passes on your phone. I've been using them for years

make sure you actually use the ryanair app. their T's and C's say displaying the PDF of the pass is not sufficient. I have used the app for about 2 years, number of different airports and what not, never any problem. Some automatic gates are a bit slow to read the code, so don't panic if they don't pop right open instantly, I think the most awkward experience was for me in Bristol, where it took me close to 5 minutes of twisting my phone in different angles until I got through

    Seriously !! ??

Wow ... Thanks a lot for the heads up, that's terrible, for other airlines I just use screenshots of the pass with QR code as its just quicker scrolling through photos.

So in theory they could go ahead and charge me the $40 even if it was a screenie from the app ?

Anyway, thanks again for the warning, I'll be sure to use the app .

FWIW, when the phone app first came out, there were significant issues at some places with confusion between a printed pass and the phone pass, as the way the bar code was decoded resulted in the check in system and subsequent security check not recognising the difference.

We found that out the hard way, at check in 2 of us were together, and I had both passes on my phone, but in case of "issues" we also had printed copies. We got separated at security, I used my phone pass, and my friend used the paper version, which the system didn't want to accept due to the difference between the 2. Once we realised what was happening, I was able to get to him from the "airside" side of the check, and produce the phone version, which the system recognised, so peace and harmony was restored.

I don't know if that's still the case, and I've not tried "confusing" the system like this again, but I am guessing that the core system hasn't been changed since that time.

So, whichever format you use, stick to it, as mixing them could cause problems.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

If you are using an iPhone, the app will give you the option to save the boarding passes to your passbook. I used the saved boarding passes last weekend with no issues.

British airways do not allow screenshots of the boarding pass. They checked that mine was not a picture when boarding.

I don't have the app because my phone is **** but I was able to use a download of the ticket to scan through in Spain.

For Ryanair two weeks ago I checked myself and my girlfriend in on the app and sent a screenshot of the app to her phone via whatsapp. Worked fine for both of us. Two android phones. Turn the brightness up to full when scanning ( I was told this was a tip, could be a load of tripe though)

Edit: Took a screenshot of her boarding pass!*

For a few years, the app wouldn't install on my French-registered phone (despite an O2.ie SIM card/connection) so I travelled only with a saved copy of the pdf. Never had any trouble. I do use the app now that it's finally compatible with my phone, and it's one of the few instances where I find it's preferable to an app/the phone a real computer and website - but that's mainly because the new(ish) RA website is a hideous experience.

Funny you should mention that because I noticed that last week when using the mobile boarding pass on the Ryanair android app, the phone automatically increases to max brightness when the boarding pass is being displayed, so there's clearly some truth behind what you were told :)

If the screens brightness is too low the scanner wont be able to read it.

PDF's are accepted by most airport if you're a European passport holder, non EU passport holders have to have a paper print out of the boarding card and need to get it stamped for a visa check, thats why their PDF would be refused

Flew one month ago with Ryanair and in our travel group there were also non-European passport holders. Boarding with only the PDF of the boarding pass (we unfortunately printed the same one multiple times) was not a problem for the whole group (this was from Sofia, BG).
