We have a water softener in the utility, big tank of a thing with a timer on the top and salt tank beside it. Seems to work very well, was put in by last owner about 15 years ago. Anyways, there is a trickle of water coming from the drain pipe most of the time which I assume isn't normal. Anyone I ask about getting someone to look at it suggest companies that sell them but I am concerned that I will be told its broken and hence should buy their product. Is there anyone in the Cork/North Cork direction that can review and service the softener?

What make is it : Glack?
    post a picture.

If its a decent make then the service agent will fix it, you cannot expect a normal electrician to be up to speed on all makes and models of this stuff and have access to all the parts, thats a fool's paradise of a business model.

Thanks for your reply. Problem is that I don't know who put it in, there is no label etc on it that has a local vendors name. I never thought of an electrician and I find any plumber I know doesn't want to deal with them. Would any water softener vendor service this particular type as its working well for us with no hardness in the kettle etc.

That's an autotrol control valve, it more than likely just needs a service

Perfect, do most companies do servicing? Should I just email them (them being some water softener crowds I find on google) a pic and ask if they service things?
ANy ideas how much a "service" should cost?
