Can anyone tell me what working in Halfords is like and is the pay good?

    What's the job title?
I'd guess it pays between min wage and a tenner an hour
Tills look handy. If it's an area that interests you even better.
Sorry, I don't work in halfords but it's a pretty weird thread. Take a walk up there and chat to the staff or at least observe them working for a bit.

No it's not. The chap is looking for advice on a job in the "Work & Jobs forum". It's a perfectly valid thread.

You do realise halfords have more than 1 location? I Stand by my advice. Go to the shop.

    You ask the job title.
You make a guess at the pay.
You make an observation that 'tills look handy' and something about something of interest being better.
You admit you don't work in Halfords and suggest the OP go and speak with staff, casually, expecting them to tell a total stranger the pro's and con's of working in their workplace....

Now, you might be right on the money there. But none of that qualifies as advice.

OP, expect minimum wage to be the starting point, on par with the likes of DIY home stores or supermarkets etc.

If you have an aptitude for customer service type work dealing with all sorts of questions from people who need a bit of advice on everything from wiper blades to child seats, stereo head units to socket sets, you're generally knowledgable about DIY car repairs and interested in motoring, don't mind a varied work schedule and you're happy to roll up your sleeves and do a bit of everything going, it won't be a terrible place to work.

It's unusual for people to spend many years working in Halfords, certainly not for anyone who's truly knowledgable and develops any kind of specialist skills, but it's a good place to learn how to do many things necessary for a career in retail, parts sales and warehousing operations.

If you're considering applying for work in a particular store, consider approaching one of the managers directly to ask them a few questions about training, customer service positions etc. Remember that what they want to see is someone who's presentable, interested, flexible and thinking about something other than the price of a few cans of Dutch Gold or how they can get cheap stuff with their staff discount. ;)

The local Halford has atleast 2 fully qualified mechanics working in there, possibly more.
I've no idea if they just couldn't get other work or if Halfords actually pay well for knowledgeable staff.
I'm guessing you need to be a bit of a petrolhead and have a real passion for cars (or bikes), that can come across in an interview, I'm sure it's a dream job for many young fellas driving around in supped up civics.
