Nick's post about Michael Phelps reading Purpose driven life got me thinking....

What books do people read ? Why and how have they changed your thinking?

I had a conversation with my wife this week about PDL et al.
What ever happened to people reading their bibles instead of all these self help books?

All my early reading (apart from the Bible) was of missionaries such as Hudson Taylor, Charles Muller, Francesca Cable etc. They probably shaped my thinking over the last 3 decades more than "how to " books.

They definitely shaped my thinking regarding "missionaries" and their attitudes to service and money.
I'm always puzzled about the people who say"God sent me" and then ask for money, not believing that the God who sent them is able to meet all their needs.
That was definitely the stance I took when I served abroad. No one knew my need and yet I never lacked.
Now I just work and use my salary to pay for meeting my commitments abroad.
