I'm picking up my new boxer pup next week, first dog too at that.

I've researched a lot and have been given advice from friends with pets but I'd love any information that people find really necessary with dogs, especially boxers. I appreciate all your advice ☺

We have a lab, have been bringing her to a puppy social hour for the last month, she is 4 months old now. There is a boxer there the same age, twice as big nearly, and seemingly boundless energy compared to the lab! Beautiful dog, but will take a lot to tire out!

Is there anything cuter than a Boxer puppy? ;)

Having had two boxer pups over the years I would recommend you crate train them. That insatiable energy will easily turn to boredom if left alone and then destructive. We've lost chairs, sofas, beds and dozens of the kids' favourite toys, not to mention the wife's shoes.

Everytime you need to leave them alone stick them in the crate. It makes for a much easier life.

Also, get dog insurance. If your puppy unfortunately turns out to have dodgy hips/joints then you are facing huge vet bills - 10s of 1000s.

    Enjoy! :)

    2 important things

Obedience training - They are very strong dogs on the lead.

Socialising - You need to get your boxer socialised while its a pup. Around Humans and other dogs.

We're on our first boxer, she's 3 years old now and showing no signs of getting any sense which just makes us love her all the more :D

Won't bother giving you advice as you'll figure it your yourself in time.

Just enjoy him / her and please post pics when you have them..

    This, multiplied x 1,000

We have a Maltichon. She's 3 now but we didn't socialise her with other dogs anywhere near enough at the early days and boy have we paid the price for it.

Anywhere we go now she goes insane at the first glimpse of another dog.

She even does "Drive-Bys". Not that she has an Uzi or anything, but as we drive along, window down so she can stick her head out, then she sees a person walking their dog on the footpath and goes mental braking and snarling at them as we drive past.

It's something we have worked on a lot but we left it too late really.

Socialise him/her with other dogs as much as you can while they're young!

They are an amazing breed of dog. I would agree with everything said above. But most of all enjoy they become a huge part of family life and will involve them selves in everything.

We lost our fella almost a year ago now he was 15 yrs of age and still acted like a big pup. Miss him every day

There was one on a course I was doing (we had practical weekends with our own dogs) - I've never seen a boxer like him - he was just stunning! And really good with his obedience too once he was in work mode!
