Hi there, just wondering if anyone would be able to identify this guy for me? I will try to post the photo as others seem to have managed it but here's the description if not. Spider living in our bin outside - looks like a Hard shell, shiny and black and a whiteish line mark on it back. I have googled and false widow is the closest thing to it- anyone know? Thank you!! Judy

They are common in Ireland and even if that is not one, you probably have them somewhere around the house; most houses have them. We have them in out kitchen and they are harmless.

Do any spiders here show under UV light, like the black widow in the US?
