Struggling to find work getting depressed

Hi, I'm not sure if this is in the right section but I recently finished a 2 year Beauty Therapy course and qualified with internationally recognized qualifications but I'm struggling to find the 600 hour work experience needed to get the certificate. I have personally went and asked more than 15 salons around where I live and left my CV. The most I've gotten is we'll keep you in my mind if anything comes up. A lot of them don't even call back.

I've been on job websites online but all the job openings require minimum 2 years experience, there seems to be none there for someone just starting out. It's really getting me down at this stage. I'm just thinking there must be something wrong with me if I can't even get unpaid work. I've considered volunteering for awhile in local charity shops.

I already don't have a lot of confidence in myself and it takes a lot to muster up the courage to keep going in personally asking the boss of these salons. I get really really anxious to the point I'm nearly shaking going in but I still force myself to do it. I feel employers won't even look at someone without work experience but I'm willing to start from the bottom, it doesn't seem to help.

Does anyone have any advice? I'd appreciate any :) or should I just give up on my qualification and start looking for work elsewhere?

OP, I'm going to move your thread to Work and Jobs where you'll get some good advice from the locals there :)

can you ask the college to help with the work experience? most colleges have a career guidance dept that can help with placements.

or ask your mom, aunts, friends where they get their waxing etc done and ask them to put in a good word for you.

dont give up, its hard but worth it if your passionate about it.

Maybe not so much for beauty colleges and the like, though.

OP - I think that doing some volunteer work for a charity shop or similar is a great idea. It will give you some customer service and cash-handling experience, and help you to meet more people.

a lot of the tutors in beauty colleges work in salons or own them/run them or at least have contacts in the industry, College of Commerce in Cork offer a Beauty course and have direct ties to Salons in the area and help place students.
