Connection flight question

Hi, I am planning a trip lets say from airport A to B and then from B to C taking into consideration that I will be flying with the carry on luggage only and that the flight tickets are going to be bought separately from 2 different airlines, I might have to change terminal completely.

Do I have to leave the airport and re-enter again or can I just find my connection flight? is the above scenario allowed by all airport? thanks.

I am asking this question because I used a small airport in mainland Europe recently and when we left the plane we went straight to security and left the airport, I haven't seen any signs pointing towards a connection flight or anything like that.

If you have two different point to point tickets then yes you go to arrival hall and then go back through security to departures

Not necessarily if you'd checked in online and printed a boarding pass. But as the details of the OP's trip seem to be secret and we don't know the airport, who knows?

I am not trying to keep the airports secret, I just have few airports that I can use, some are big and some are small and as such I wanted to know if there is a general rule about connection flights.

to go back to the first post, if you were at a small airport then thats essentially the reason there was no mention of connecting flights, because probably they have so few flights that connecting passengers are rare.

On the other hand the likes of Amsterdam or Frankfurt or Copenhagen have millions of connecting passengers every year (if not millions per month) meaning they are really well set up for connections

Thank you for your constructive answer, so it depends on the size of the airport, I am planning to potentially use the main airport in Barcelona (BCN), I guess that they are well set up for connection flights.
