    Hi,
I'm shopping around for laminate wood flooring and there seems to be quite a difference between the like of woodies, b+q, carpet wise and builders providers with the latter being more expensive.
Is it just down to quality and you pay for what you get?
Sorry if its a dumb question/

I've never found a builder providers to be more expensive, they generally stock much better quality. All laminates are quite good these days, once you don't buy the bargain bin stuff.

I would go for min of 8mm, v groove on all sides, plastic clip on short side (much quicker to install) and decent guarantee. Recently got all of the above in heiton buckleys for €10/sq meter. Even the cheap stuff they had in heiton buckley was better than some of what's in woodies etc...

For bedrooms and low traffic area the cheaper floors should be grand. About 18 months ago i fitted a cheap Ikea floor in an attic room and its still absolutely fine.

Not really, my own experience is that a lot of the larger irish retailers really try and gouge their unsuspecting customers. I bought Balterio Vitality Deluxe laminate a few months back for the main bedroom having viewed maybe 50 different offerings from all the large outlets. I was only buying 20m2 and ended up purchasing it and the underlay from a small distributor in Ashbourne, Co. Meath called bigflatfloors.ie For the flooring alone they yielded a saving of nearly €200 for what I could buy the same product for from one of the large chains, couldn't believe the price difference. It really pays to shop around once you've settled on a product.

Looking at laminate recently and noticed very few if any are tongue and groove.
Is it out of fashion now? Don't care much for the clip in joints.

As mentioned above, Balterio V groove - 8mm. Easy install. Looks great. Very competitively priced.
