I have to go to Killorglin some year and check this shindig out. Crowning some horned goat to be a king and then put up on some high altar? That sounds like a serious Baphomet worship festival. A few centuries ago the Vatican would have nuked the entire village for even thinking about doing it

Must have been Caspar the friendly Goat. Unfortunate.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Valid point

I went a couple of years ago and the overall experience was just about OK. The most interesting aspect was seeing an Irish town with zero laws regarding the sale of booze-people were literally selling cans out the open windows of their houses and the pubs were still going strong about 5am when we left. Also, if you had any tools stolen from anywhere in Munster you'd surely find them laid out on the ground being flogged by traveller children. It was a good buzz till about 2am but the atmosphere started getting sour and there were fights breaking out etc

Have they put that wee lassie up on the goats pedestal instead of the goat?

No, they crown the goat, then at the end shave it and elect it to d'Dáil ;)

    I went this year.

Poor goat must need ear plugs.

Dj in the square played galway girl about 18 times.

It's like a fr Ted episode for the entire day. There's a nightclub in a shed. An actual shed that has cattle in it the days prior.

There's mountain folk who only appear in public at this fair.

Personal space and social norms completely disappear.

    Fantastic craic

Have you heard about the "Traveler Rose of Tralee"? It started this year and is only open to those who don't like to be discriminated against...

I'd link if I wasn't too lazy to do so.

It's a boozy version of The Purge, without the actual purging bit.

Do they still have the Queen of the fair? A young girl, paired with the goat. Great craic.

The King was transferred from the capture point by car to where he was caged. This is a genuine wild mountain billygoat, Kerry people don't lie.

Beware of goats in Kerry they may be psychological damaged, it's only a matter of time before they exact a bloody revenge. Although in fairness no living creature should be exposed to the music of mike Denver.
