Applying for Practical Driving Test

    Hello,

I currently hold a learners permit and have already completed the EDT course, (plus extra lessons) needed to do the practical driving test, category B and I feel ready to do it ASAP.

The problem is I passed my theory test about 3 months ago and started doing lessons shortly after. Now I've done everything too early because I have to hold the licence for 6 months before I can do the test.

To make matters worse, I don't have a car nor am I insured under any relatives vehicles. So, I'll be road rusty when my test comes around. I am also unsure about the rules of applying which I hope someone can clarify.

Now here's the question, can I apply to do my test BEFORE the 6 months are up so I can do the test as soon as possible when the 6 months are up?

You're going to have to sit out your 6 month waiting trial. Don't worry, I'm in the same boat as you. I haven't got my own car either and I've my test in a couple of weeks, get a few more lessons when you receive your test date. My driving instructor told me that I was "bit" rusty. But think of it this way, don't stress about it, it's booked and paid for. Go into it with a "feck it" attitude. Stay relaxed, do what you know and just "pop the clutch and keep um lit" HAHA!

It is expensive, what can you do about it. You'll need a car eventually so the licence has to be acquired at some point. Many people get shaky hands/legs, start stuttering due to nerves. RELAX!!! if you know how to drive, then you know how to drive. Focus on the little things, like junctions, reverse around the corner (everyone's favourite), hill start etc. little things that will fail you. There's more to it then, like over taking parked cars and checking mirrors and the correct way to let the handbrake down (YES the correct way to let a handbrake down, I have a habit of dropping it down real fast and off I go :D ). Honestly at this stage I don't give a fiddle because it's a vicious circle of driver experience and insurance premiums. My driving instructor let me down multiple times with driving lesson times changing them over and over for some stupid reason.

Myself, if i fail my driving test, I will simply buy some aul country 1.9TDI golf or passat and drive that around my estate and "practice, practice, practice" or you can keep spending money on lessons, which in the end when you think about it, you could have bought a car instead with that money. It's your call, take a spin in your parents car. Don't be putting yourself out there on public roads. Practice your reverse around the corner and three point turn along with a hill start if available. In the end there's nothing you can do about it, confidence is key, show your examiner you can drive. Don't be nervous and GOOD LUCK! ;)

Yes, you can apply for your test date before your six months are up, as long as your driving instructor has uploaded all of your 12 hours of EDT lessons. The issue date on your licence won't be checked until you arrive to sit your test. I did that for mine and ended up with a date like three days after my six-month period ended (though I also had a letter of exemption from the RSA by then, as I hold a full US license; just took so long to get a test date that I ended up not needing it).
